Drop Cloth Dreams

Drop cloth dreams It has been found that given enough time failure will find this destined loser lurking in gallery tints and watercolor fault lines semi gloss replaced by flat Painting abstract nothings on a canvas made of words Broken brushes stain the existing balance with a voice that collects the remnants speaking tarnished silver when silence should be golden Pop art wastelands of dotted balloons float above the ground where his face falls, shamed and hidden, in plain sight with eyes holding quarters of bygone years melting clocks keep time with his idiocy Impressionists laugh at his existence in muted tone chuckles and turpentine snickers Stretched on easels of dislodged glances with splattered smocks tied in double knots one size fits all This palette of mixed memories resting on mainstream notions, waits for the end is sure to come finding him alone with an empty imagination and nothing but drop cloth dreams 6/1/17 For the JUNE PREMIERE CONTEST Poetry Contest Sponsored by Brian Strand

Winning or losing does only matter if there is no one appreciating the poem. The people below, including me, love this poem. You're a master painter with images, I can see them, almost touch them, and if this is only a cloth dream, can I please have it when it is finished? It will have a place of honor above my bed :) Beautiful, my friend, and congratulations on your placement

Hello Chris. This is very reflective with sadness as the painter views his life. May that canvas not be empty and may the drop cloth have stains of various and numerous colors to prove life and worth. Well done in its entirety. Honestly. Best of luck with the contest.

This is such an touching poem Chris - as Anne-Marie said it reminds me too of Van Gogh and his struggle, battling his critics. Picasso also had a strange style and look where he got in the art world. Your word picture canvases will always remain glossy and the silver will never tarnish...Maria

I am back to say this splendid write of yours reminded me of many an artist plight like Van Gogh's whose talent was not fully appreciated 'till after his death (he only sold one painting during his lifetime) 7 to infinity if ratings were allowed.

Thank you again my friend. Some I am certain have never been or will never be considered famous, but that doesn't make it good art. :)

The imagination is bursting at the seams in this masterpiece Chris with "speaking tarnished silver when silence should be golden" "eyes holding quarters of bygone years" and "melting clocks" keeping time "with his idiocy" to only quote a few of the many incredible lines that speak so clearly of a very talented artist whose "palette of mixed memories" is anything but "one size fits all" because, once the cloth is dropped, the dreams fly off the page, which is the mark of a true artist :) A Fave!

Nooo, I hope that never happens to any artist, regardless of the kind of art. For what is art with an empty imagination? Well written Chris :) good luck in the contest !!

Oh so sad Chris . That shows how well you have expressed feelings into words. I am getting sadder by the minute with things today.
