Line of inquiry:
“Thought streams manifested the dream
I was both subject and object
Methinks things are not what they seem
Which illusion do we reject” - from Unseeking Seeker
Dreams within dreams (within dreams?)
I wonder what any of it means.
I remember a night of slumber
from which I awoke all of a sudden.
Across from me on my bed
was the little dog I’d been forced to let go.
A grateful disbelief entered my head,
for I’d loved my small dog so.
Into my open arms he leapt, and to my chest
my little dog’s body I gladly pressed.
His beautiful fur I could both smell and feel.
He’d been gone from my life a short while.
How could this all be real?
Flooded with joy, I stroked his fur.
What happened next is kind of a blur.
I was back into a dream wandering on a street
along with my beloved pet
who’d given me many years
of a love unconditional and sweet.
The vision of that night has stayed -
my love and a dog’s love for me.
Can it last for an eternity?
When I was forced to give him up,
my darling dog had been growing old.
Maybe that night he had died, and his soul
had returned to me so that his soft fluffy body
I’d gotten one last chance to hold
before he’d go on to Rainbow Bridge.
Could that night’s visit have been an illusion?
To me that just doesn't seem correct.
Having buried my face in my dear dog’s fur,
this notion I reject.
Some may say my belief is a delusion.
I, however, have reached
my own differing conclusion.
