Down On the Farm

Down on the farm, the work's never done No tea and crumpets or yellow-pink faeries Farm folks stay busy from first to last light Down on the farm, the work's never done Work ethic's king; havin' fun just ain't right -- But for listenin' to crickets and scarin' old crows Down on the farm, the work's never done No tea and crumpets or yellow-pink faeries 'Triolet'

I always wonder why we always say "down on the farm" instead of "up on the farm"? You have delighted me with this one.

It's true, farm life is a hard life, but us city folks could probably benefit from getting our hands in the dirt!

Oh, that's for sure!... Actually I was a farmer in Israel in my 20's---not a bad life, if you like hard work and seeing the fruits of your labor,...and you can take the geographical isolation. Thanks for weighing in on this one, Michelle. Best wishes, Gershon

Yes, the work is hard...no time for the frivolities, no hanging the pinky from the cup ;)

Ha, ha. No hanging pinkies on the farm; can't say there's no hanky-panky there though, from what I hear tell. Thanks for the cute comment, Kim! :) gw

In the city farm, people run up and down...no time for pleasure until the work's been done...Nice write...Enjoyed the read...All the best Gershon

Interesting observation, Arturo, about the 'city farm' where people 'run up and down... no time' there either, I guess. Apparently we are all farmers now!!! Was it always that way? --- I think not. I remember my parents having time for visitors and socialization in the evening. Where have we urbanites 'gone wrong?!' ~ gw
