Doubt Came Knocking

DOUBT CAME KNOCKING Doubt came knocking at my door and wanted to come in, Convincing me I was not saved and still was lost in sin. It told me of my awful past and all its scars on me. Reminded me of battles now that I still often see. It even quoted Scripture there, and made it seem quite plain That through the motions I had gone and was not born again. It frightened me with hellfire then, as at His throne I’d be, “Depart from Me,” I’d hear Him say, “You never came to Me.” The fears began to build inside as on this scary thought I mused and wondered, “Is it right?” and hard the questions fought. But then the Holy Spirit spoke to others who knew not The knock that came there at my door, the visitor I got. Somehow the things they said or sang were words just right for me, And suddenly that doubt that came so quickly had to flee. Oh, I suspect he won’t stay gone; he’ll come back I am sure, But I have prayed to help from God to make me more secure. And I have seen He sees me now so different than I do, And what He said defeats all doubt, for all His word is true. He said if I would come to Him, He’s never cast me out, That settles it, my visitor! That defeats every doubt! He said I’m in His hand to stay, no man pluck from that place, And I’m not saved by righteousness, but only by His grace. When scars of life that I once lived bring doubt up to my door, Help me, dear Jesus, to recall when they appeared before; I settled that that day with You, You made it real that day, So visitor of doubt, BE GONE! I’m in His hand to stay!!
