‘Enter and explore’ read the sign above Blake’s Hall. Sliding open the French doors I stepped inside where I was greeted by a row of coloured doors. Intrigued, I approached a green door, rested my hand on the knob and turned it slowly. Peeping in I glimpsed hope and harmony holding hands...then behind I espied two scary beasts, eyes gleaming with greed and envy. Hastily I closed the door and moved to the next, a red one. Its intensity drew me like a magnet, and unhesitatingly I opened it to reveal a room divided in two sections; in one, passion, love and desire lay in warm embrace... in the other, danger and malice lurked in the dim light. Unsure of myself, I walked on to the next, a yellow door. With renewed energy I stepped in to be met by joy’s cheerful countenance, but this soon was obscured by the unpleasant smell of sickness and foul decay. Again, another hasty exit which led me to a purple door. Inside I witnessed luxury; felt an aura of power, mystery... at the same time foreboding gloom, and frustration sent a shiver up my spine; uneasily I closed the door behind me. Perplexed, abandoning my curiosity, I headed for the exit. At that moment it dawned on me what Blake’s Hall stood for… It was a clear reference to ... the doors of perception. - - - - - - - - - - - - - © 31st March 2017

A riveting and enthralling write Paul. My attention was captivated throughout. Your intriguing poem captures the essence of balance between positive and negative, light and dark, the good with the bad... You deftly illuminated these contrasts in your stunning write. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Fascinating. This poem is its own thing if that makes sense. I don't sense an attempt at some sermon or code but more a mind that is simply being free with thought, language and form. Thanks for sharing.................peace!

What wonderful words of wisdom through your Doors Paul. An interesting journey, I was particularly interested in seeing what you would find behind the yellow one, my favorite color, but this was not to be the right one alas. A perfect 7++

You capture the reader's interest as you describe both the positive and negative aspects associated with each door color. And your final line reminds us that these colors change meanings, depending on how we perceive them. This is a fave for me, Paul. Beautifully done!

Hi Andrea! I admire your perseverance:) ...and yes, your 'plane' took you to the correct perception!! It was William Blake's quote that inspired this prose poem; I chose colours to prove my point. ~ Enjoy the weekend....paul

AWESOME take on the theme's challenge, Paul. Colors have so many meanings for us and to show the contrasting perceptions was brilliant. (hmm, I think I meant plain down there!! MY spiritual plane is going nowhere)

Oh Paul, I actually chose door one. You are on a more spiritual plane than I am or I just don't get to travel as much as you might! I loved all three doors but one and three were my favorites. Let me read YOURS now I see you chose some colored doors too!!

A spiritual jewel Paul :-) I love the healing power of colour and your words are an 'experience' to fully bask in. Your creativity on the 'Doors' theme is incredible, the details wonderfully express contradictions in all of life. The last line is just beautiful. Exceptional writing, a fave, 7 blessings xx
