Dockyard Dogfight
.
The betting and cursing,
the shouting and arguing of
the dockyard's drunken crowd
rise to a feverish pitch and
explode into a diabolical din!
The blood-crazed dogs
snarl, leap and lunge
at each other's throat.
They clamp foaming jaws
on furry flesh, ripping it,
their growls muffled by gore
and dirt and torn, bloody skin!
One seizes the other's jugular,
tightens his hold till the pavement
is slippery with blackish blood.
The vanquished falls, lies limp,
its frothy jaw now loosened,
just another mutilated carcass
there in the bloodied dust!
The betting and cursing,
the shouting and arguing of
the dockyard's drunken crowd
rise to a feverish pitch and
explode into a diabolical din!
