Do What You Can

She was a beacon, lighting up many dark nights. There were two relationships of which I am aware. One was an immature romance filled with toxicity. The other was paternal and practically none existant. I attempted personal intervention with one and failed. I loved and guided her like a father and made a difference. My granddaughter recently entered her eternal heavenly rest. And I? May it be said of me, "He has done what he could".

Curtis, your poem "Do What You Can" is a powerful and moving story of love, loss, and redemption. The imagery is simple yet evocative, and the tone is both reflective and hopeful. I especially appreciate the way you use the metaphor of a beacon to represent your granddaughter and the light she brought into the world. I also have three granddaughters and they are precious.
