Did We Go Too Far

Did we finally just push things too far
step over a sign warning us "Avert"?
Roads newly cluttered and freshly tarred
with bodies of those our trodding has hurt.

Did we laugh, throwing caution in the air,
watch it bobble, wobble, gracelessly fall
Caps, but no masks, smiling "I don't care,
freedom is ours, we will march to its call!"

Judges, juries, jargon, jousting, and jails:
none up to the task of saving our lives.
Speaking quietly over loud, angry wails,
reason, persistence may help us survive.

Losing Democracy our biggest dread,
it hangs tenuously by a truth's thread.

Is that even the Right word ?Telling / saying..Is no Guarantee that its impersonal detached facts I have listened to politicians experts tell the General 1st off, then doing 360s to demand more obedience now than the freewill acquiesce' They obtained at first, from those who once complied Also Luc Montaginer Nobel prize winner Contests the issue there is much to consider'

Well said Ann. What we need is not more liberty, but more people who do not take liberties with liberty. Ignorance is freedom's worst enemy.

Thank you for your wise comments, Lunita. That is so true about ignorance, but how do we combat it, that's the problem!

It is such a small thing to wear a mask, get a vaccine, and it can save so many - your last lines so true!

Thanks for your comments, Michelle. Our country is at its wit's end, I think.

It is up to us to save our gift that our ancestors lost their lives to create for us. I trust our children will persevere...I just must believe......

Oh, Suzanne, such wonderful thoughts. I hope so, too.
