Desired Lady
Once more he’s bet a bit too high.
He cannot hide the worry.
I’m hidden well here in the pack
and I am in no hurry.
I am one of a tattered, well-worn group.
Very soon we’ll be discarded.
We might as well have a little fun
before we are all parted.
I know he is searching for me
to go with his king and jack.
He’s eying the other players
and the dealer’s dwindling stack.
I don’t know why he is possessed
by such a silly game.
He’ll lose the cash that should buy food.
It truly is a shame.
I am just a piece of cardboard
and thus I’m not to blame
but as the needed queen of hearts,
I'm a lusted for, loved dame.
