Depth of Love

Light travels at a constant speed

though bent, attracted and absorbed –

is love so different from its beaming
physical counterpart, dear wave
that truly recalls a soul's worth of gleam

the only ethereal that lingers
within and beyond~sensing even greater
paths of flight yet to be sourced unimaginable

for what is truly remembered of a valued
life

outside the breath of a candle
never extinguished for sacredly
carried

like the sentiment of a stone
at a grave-site

where two often lie

when the one departed....

The third time i’ve cried reading poems here today, & i’ve only read 3. Might have to give it up. Having some marriage issue here, but our 41st yr is 1 month away & love grows for that. So your poem made some great points i’ll fav to ponder, but the last line tore me up…. Your oal sal. Jesus walk with you always…

Hi Sally; I know...some missing parts and wounds we just learn to live with -- if they let me in heaven, upon arrival they will get an earful from me:) Blessings my friend.

We are unlike him by our own choosing. We read His bible, and then fall into temptation, we come out of His church and envy our neighbors car. We all have the choice to be like him, but we are all too impoverished to have the willpower to do everything his way. When a loved one passes we ask Why. Often it feels as part of us also dies. Your poem is food for thought and touches so many humble human emotions. I very readable piece to start the reader thinking Joe.

One thing about love as a topic, one can attach the sentiment to most everything else -- so, material is plentiful. Really pleased you got deeply into this one. I often struggle with losing myself in my own weeds. Blessings my friend.

I really like this heartfelt poem's analogy between love, light and the soul, Joe. It's so hard to lose a loved one. Blessings.

I can be faithful, in the bible well read, yet feel profound sorrow and isolation. Transcending comfort gotten from absorption of divine text, we are creatures of inescapable human frailty. That is what separates us from God...and endears us to God. Thank you Evelyn, blessings.

A life is snuffed out in a second - no regard for any previous humane action, thought, sentiment, or gifts bequeathed. Murdering is insane and the sudden dying of a loved one is heart rending, it is hard and almost impossible to accept either, we can only hope for solace. Hugs and blessings. Jennifer. Jennifer.

Hi Jennifer; I hear you--I know, it is heartbreaking. We have let compassion, our hearts overrule the realities of an evilly inclined world. "Absolute power, absolutely corrupts". As much as my Christian heart resists, we need to restore the rule of law, and the notion that crime will not be tolerated, lawbreakers punished to the full extent of the Law. Even politicians and their cocaine addicted families. No matter one's political affiliation. In the US, law has become a weapon to use against those one disagrees with, no longer a supposed vehicle for unbiased justice. When American Citizens are disarmed, all hope of returned freedom will be gone. Obama's abuse of power was a cancer in the soul of humanity. 83,000 new armed IRS Agents, you can bet, chosen with the same qualifications as those soulless individuals who manipulate the news, wrongly run our major law enforcement agencies and sensitive positions in the military--good luck with that people. Just my opinion.

like the sentiment of a stone at a grave-site where two often lie when the one departed…how true that is. Death is a strange thing only really and truly experienced when losing someone integral to your life. I inhale & exhale thinking of my mom…how can it be that she’s no longer with us? My brain hurts. Still I have solace in God.

Hi Kim; while death separates us...in deeper sense, in an expanded comforting sense, it sort of unites us with the mystery outside, beyond. Your Christian belief, that God's bonding with His faithful is eternal I share. Realized fully our presence Immortal when the spirit unveiled. Always myself having found more truth in intuition than so-called science. Blessings my friend.
