Delightful Childhood Memories
"How sweet to the heart are the scenes of my childhood"
Samuel Woodworth, 1785-1842
Childhood memories of blissful delight*
engraved in heart, truly precious treasures
how enriching; still vivid to my sight.
Family bonding midst dining pleasures
feasting on parents’ prepared “comfort food”
so delicious along milk’s sweet measures…
Play time with dear siblings of cheerful brood
indoor games or mirth-filled “hide-and-seek”
joyous after settling petty kid’s feud…
Chores’ fulfillment during ends of the week
washing dishes, cleaning, cooking with zeal
helped me cherish wondrous motherhood’s peak…
Expectant always for Dad’s packaged seal
containing fruits, pastries, toys… gracious gifts
lavishing care in the home I did feel…
Sundays affirming church attendance lifts
while taught to value spiritual gain*
trusting God with one accord of no rifts…
My childhood experiences do reign
through memories oblivion can't drain.
*1Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
