Death Row Blues

He’d spent nearly a decade on death row Praying for appeals that were not bestowed Had a solid alibi One the courts would just not buy A death sentence he’d have to undergo DNA exam proved him no killer But there’s a sad angle to this thriller Tests performed posthumously Executioners agree Evidence came too late; what a chiller! *For Miranda’s “Behind Bars Blues” contest

Fine Limerick Carolyn. Many a wrong verdict has been handed down. Now that DNA technology has grown, hopefully all the Mounties get their men. Congratulations on your win :) smiles 4U

I'm hoping this is a work of fiction, Carolyn. It would be sooo sad if it really happened. Congratulations on your well-deserved win. Nice one, my friend. :))

To suffer wrongly all for nought, pinned by the ears and silence bought, ironic pain a pardon sought, is death an education... great offering babe, thought provoking, Don

Love your poem Carolyn! If I had to "do it all over again," I would be a defense attorney for this exact reason. It's sad what can happen to some-that is why I believe in the "system." Thanks for this beautiful write.

I thought this one was also about that awful Bundy bloke to start with - great limerick, Carolyn. I wish England would reintroduce the death penalty, but it sure sucks for an innocent guy to be executed.

I have read about cases where the DNA evidence came too late after innocent people were executed. That;s just one reason why I think the death penalty is wrong. Good luck in Miranda's contest. Best to you, Diane

Indeed chilling. And to think it really happens. That is something that you were on Ted bundy's trial. But you never actually had personal dealings with him, did you? He was killing girls right here near BYU I think in the 70's when I was in school there!!
