When I look at the flashing lighthouse on an ocean between the shores of the soul Mournful and exhausted, but no tears It is through our memories my day shall be measured as a faded aged road sign with no way “Memento Mori” (remember that you will die) Death is not an illusion but a journey toward an unknown port A one way ticket my grief will not hold you back The priest said a few words in a monotone voice the congregation responds: "Rest in peace" A longing trembles in my heart No one is lying on the pillow close to me It's tough, but I can manage When all seems dark and filled with gloom I wear a mask and hide my mourning although tomorrow, will be my worst fear Miss you more than words can describe No one can ignore or avoid death - one day we will meet again They await you with love and anticipation on the other side When the moon shines bright - I love you good night 31.03.2023 Sun :) - A-L Andresen :) Copyright © All Rights Reserved Death of a loved one Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Unseeking Seeker 6th place in the contest

Here there is such a heartening approach to death ! Though death is a reality we have to face single handed and is painful, there is the hope of meeting our dear ones on the other shore of life, one day. An excellent poem dear Shine.

absolutely enthralling....line by line you take us into what we all must face at some point and the execution is infallible...i held your hand in my own remembrances and the beauty of poetry is when we walk together in the quills depth.....this poem is when the kindred spirit walks with another soul in sharing the travails of life

This is sad, but beautiful at the same time, Anne-Lise, but such is the loss of a loved one. Yes, we can all look forward to meeting again... Best regards, hugs and Happy Easter, my friend. // paul

With death, comes a chance to let go of a deceased. We cannot communicate with the dead well, maybe some people can…not me, I get overwhelmed by our lack of care for the living I really do. I’ve seen so.many die. I miss them but I look to the living. Loneliess affects all of us, I hope we appreciate those still here. Great poem Pangie

- I wish I could communicate with the dead to some extent... but, I can't - We say goodbye... and carry them in our hearts - Life goes on... - Many thanks for reading and your comment, Pangie :) - hugs

Again another wonderful brilliant poem fro m Norway to readers around the world. well penned dear friend - funerals are sad as they make us think of our loved ones that have passed - however they are even worse when the funeral is for one of our own loved ones, heartbreaking is the word that comes to mind immediately. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Often for those that die it is a realease but devastating for those left behind who find trouble accepting the loss. Tom

I'm so sorry for your grief, Sunshine. This aging is hard, so many you know are dying. Bands, actors, friends. It's just hard. Beautiful poem about loss.

Anne-Lise, your lines are filled with anguish, however, they're nicely textured by your closing line, which shudders with faith and premonition. Best of luck to you in the competition.

I did not find deep sorrow in your poem Ann-Lise. I saw sentiment, and a logical account of death as a continuation of our journey, that happens to us all. The grief I saw was heartfelt but acceptable and not selfish. I hope I haven't misread this beautiful poem, to me it is exactly as death should be perceived. There must be acceptance by those left behind to honour those that have passed. Please forgive me if I have misinterpreted your lovely words.

Deep sorrow in your words Anne-Lise but tempered beautifully by your last line - a line that trembles with hope and foreshadowing. Best wishes for the contest. Blessings of peace for your heart.
