Death Be But a Lullaby
Death be but a lullaby
which sings the soul to sleep,
calming is thy tender melody
so no more we may weep
Death be but a lullaby
to soothe thy weary head,
once overcome by life's travails
now freely dances with the dead
Death be but a lullaby
how sweetly the reaper sings,
his harmony of heaven uplifts
as if carried upon white wings
Death be but a lullaby
meant to follow right along,
walk behind his hooded robe
this Pied Piper and his song
Death be but a lullaby
to listen to without fear,
when the reaper's tolling bell
comes a'ringing in thy ear.
