Death, Where Are You

So breathless, weak, confined to bed Taut, sallow skin, eyes sunk in head To these sad days, her life has led... Death, where are you. Forsaken now, at her life's end On future hopes, cannot depend Dear God, release our dying friend... Death, where are you. Her destiny has been cut short There are no plans of last resort To hold her hand, our sole support... Death, where are you. Emotions now bring us to tears This final stage confirms our fears Please take her, God, to your frontiers... Death, where are you. Sandra M. Haight ~1st Place~ Contest: Rhyme and Refrain Sponsor: Broken Wings Judged: 05/14/2018 Required Words to Use: emotions breathless forsaken destiny Based on the current, true story about one of our older daughter's best friends, as well as one of ours, 56 years old, in the last stages of lung cancer. Note: Today, May 1, 2018, around 2:10 pm, our dear friend passed. God heard our prayers...

Sandra, it is obvious that you have a clear understanding of the inevitability of death. Yet, my experience is that many just don't see beyond it. Suffering is difficult to watch but the end result for believers is the joy of the beginning, not the end. I sympathize and empathize with you, your family, and the family of your friend but at the same time, I see God's marvelous glory at work in her life and yours. God Bless you all during this time of grief and sorrow.

It s a really sad poem, that s what life is, From Him we come and to Him we are bound to return, every soul who has come onto this Earth at some point in life will have to swallow the bitter taste of death, may his soul rest in peace and good luck for the contest

oh it is so awful when they are in great pain and need to move on. And yet others are taken by death in the blink of an eye when they are very young. Death is very unjust. This is fantastic writing.

Your words play within our hearts and their sadness comes alive and fills us with overpowering emotions. A poem offering quiet reflection on the essence of being human and sharing the love and pain intrinsic to our species. Your words gently take the reader to your private place where feelings can drift and unravel. This is a deep piece and it struggles with the feeling of helplessness . Well written my friend, Emile.

What a heart-wrenching poem this is, Sandra. I fear that we all know of someone close who has or is going through the same terrible time. This hit home in many ways. Good luck with this.

Such a sad verse Sandra, and sometimes death brings an end to pain and suffering. There will be many on here who can relate to this with the loss of friends and loved ones to the dreaded disease of cancer. Tom.
