Listen to poem:
Dear Grand-maman,
You had such an impact in my life, especially in my formative years
You taught me how to sew at the age of three, to knit then crochet
You taught me how to read and write way before I went to school
I was so lucky to have you as my grand-mother
In your 20’s, you must have been the most wonderful teacher
What I would give to have been a bird flying
by your little house on the prairie style class window
I want to tell you that you made me feel precious and
though the family moved far away when I turned nine –
that support stuck with me through the years
I had a solid base of self-confidence and I believed in myself
Of course, it would have been much better had we never moved
It’s hard to imagine what my life might have been like
if we had never moved so far from you
I love you so much and miss you terribly
I’m going to keep calling on you for inspiration
because I know you‘re hovering as my guardian angel
especially when I see sparrows or little pit pit’s as you called them
I’d love to give you a big loving hug
I love you and think of you always
Forever in my heart,
your adoring goddaughter xx
