Dead Or Alive

Wearing masks
They dance, laugh and sing
So carefree
Full of life
The musicians follow them
All pleasing the crowds

In costumes
They take the old route
So sombre
Sad music
Pipes and slow beats of the drums
A march for the dead

Jack Horne for Nette’s Share a Shadorma

Awesome write, the unexpected parade makes this one special... something about 'they take the old route' really haunts me, the idea that this march is done over and over again, through the years. Fab! Congrats from Cyndi PS thanks for all the comments on my own tinkerings... you're a scholar and a gentleman (stop laughing!)

Jack, you had me laughing in your comments on "No Candy Needed." I do try to give the kids a scare, but sometimes they do come back after realizing what I was doing. As for turning out the lights to avoid carolers, I wish I we HAD more carolers in the US. We used to carol in college, but no one has ever come to my door singing Christmas tunes. Love, Carolyn

Jack, this reminds me of the funeral processions in New Orleans. There is music, masks and celebration of the life tht was lived. Very compelling entry for Nette's contest! Best wishes for success, dear friend. Love, Carolyn

this is awesome how you contrasted the slow death march with the merry making. NICELY done. As for me, I'm same o same o. BEen popping my surgery pain pills for this unrelated back pain and soon they will be gone. Will have to find something else that works! It's funny you asked about hubbie. OUr 36th anniversary is tomorrow. Aug 16 is also my brother's birthday and anniversary of Elvis presley's death!
