Dappled Dawn

Like melodies from night leaves sent over
Above the pebbled rivers, her hooves float
Across glens with misty drops of clover
Embroidered in a dwindling dark, she coats
The sleeping land with birdcall's silver notes
A flash, perhaps, between a pine and fir
A starlit ghost, gone as the sunlight stirs
A fabled murmur, unseen and undrawn
Glimpsed as stillness where moons and mornings blur
The gray mare who carries the dappled dawn

This phantom gray mare carrying the dappled dawn upon her back is simply exquisite in imagery and your wonderful creative phrasing... I liked "Embroidered in a dwindling dark" and "Glimpsed as stillness where moons and mornings blur" the most. Congrats on this magnificent choice for POTD - a fave Michelle Faulkner February 8, 2022 at 9:16 PM I always wanted a dappled gray mare, but of course not having a farm or ranch, that would have been a bit impractical :) I am so glad that you enjoyed my other horse poems, ('Regret' was another POTD I had, guess horses bring me luck!)
