Dappled Dawn

Like melodies from night leaves sent over Above the pebbled rivers, her hooves float Across glens with misty drops of clover Embroidered in a dwindling dark, she coats The sleeping land with birdcall's silver notes A flash, perhaps, between a pine and fir A starlit ghost, gone as the sunlight stirs A fabled murmur, unseen and undrawn Glimpsed as stillness where moons and mornings blur The gray mare who carries the dappled dawn 2/04/22 D Forms - Dizain contest Sponsor: Constance La France First Place Poem of the Day, 2/06/22

Michelle, congratulations on your win. As always your words are the definition of creativity articulated - "grey mare who carries the dappled dawn," "embroidered in a dwindling dark," "pebbled." I am always amazed by your wonderful visions and use of words to create not only a picture but a sense of your scene. Hope you are well and cozy! Blessings dear friend!

Michelle, you always write of horses so beautifully and lovingly (Her Name Was Regret and Arabians To Zebras come to mind as well as the fun contest you sponsored called Some Paradise Where Horses Go). This phantom gray mare carrying the dappled dawn upon her back is simply exquisite in imagery and your wonderful creative phrasing... I liked "Embroidered in a dwindling dark" and "Glimpsed as stillness where moons and mornings blur" the most. Congrats on this magnificent choice for POTD - a fave

I always wanted a dappled gray mare, but of course not having a farm or ranch, that would have been a bit impractical :) I am so glad that you enjoyed my other horse poems, ('Regret' was another POTD I had, guess horses bring me luck!) Those lines you mentioned are my favorites too, and thank you for the fave, it means a lot!

Dreamy. You are such a graceful writer. My ex mum in law offered me a 27yr old arabian, dapple grey. It broke my brain, couldn’t say yes, couldn’t say no. Careful what you wish for lol. Congratulations on POTD! xomo

So very lovely, Michelle, every line. My favorite: "A flash, perhaps, between a pine and fir, A starlit ghost, gone as the sunlight stirs"--sunlight stirs is so perfect and I love "the gray mare who carries the dappled dawn." ~ exquisite!
