Hi John my Dad also wore a uniform - a Captain in the Zambian Army - he was my hero, also served in the British Army n the tanks in WW 11. Enjoyed your love shown to your Dad. Blessings, Jennifer.

I can tell how proud of him you were (and are) we both come from military families who sacrificed to serve - this is a very loving tribute to his memory..

I wish I had honored him more while he was alive, but this is the regret of not knowing what you had until you don't have it anymore. I now know that so much of who I am came from the source upstream. Thanks for the comment, it blessed me very much, Michelle.

Exquisite tribute to your dad! Loved the picture. There is such a nice cadence to this poem. My dad was also in the navy during WWII. Sounds like you had a terrific base coach. Happy Memorial Day.

Emile, thank you very much for sponsoring this contest and for your generous placement. Your diminished hexaverse examples were what inspired me to write this. I had not written a poem for my dad before this, and I credit you for giving me that nudge. Your friend, John

Dear Jan, this was the first poem I've ever written for my dad. He would have turned 100 this year. Interestingly, he was born during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1920. I'm kind of thankful he isn't having to celebrate his 100th birthday alone in a nursing home. But I do miss him every day.

Thank you for your endearing words, Aditi. If I carry but a speck of his reflection, I will have lived well. I learned the meaning of the word sacrifice from him, and am honored to be his son. God bless you, my dear friend ~ John
