The term closet drama (closet is an old term for a small private study or reading room) refers to non-performance plays written in verse form, often considered to be too tendentious in content for public airing. It relies on dialogue and not descriptions of scenes. These plays thrive in the realm of imagination, where the reader conjures scenes, characters, and emotions without the need for physical enactment.

This is dialogue based on my favorite Disney movie Enchanted! I chose an animal character making this most challenging.

Without any clothes suitable for the real world, Giselle fashions a dress out of curtains, mimicking the way her animated character would create clothing in her magical world. It’s a delightful moment that showcases her ingenuity and the blending of her fairytale origins with her new, more pragmatic surroundings.

Characters Giselle dreams of meeting a prince and experiencing a "happily ever after." A yearning heroine princess trope in a fairy tale who relies on her innate ability to adapt to new situations to survive unfamiliar circumstances. Giselle's transformation into someone who no longer needs to be rescued, a journey in which she evolves into an independent young woman. Pip is the obligatory animal sidekick, acting as Giselle's best friend while she is still in Andalasia and later as Prince Edward's guide in the real world. But as soon as Pip arrives, he realizes that he is barely able to speak. He uses all his movements and squeaks in a tiny voice which are constantly misinterpreted. Scene “Nothing To Wear “ In this scene Giselle needs something to wear and with no fairy-godmother, what’s a princess to do? Dialogue Giselle: This just won’t do (a high-pitched soprano begins Ah ha ha ahhhhhhhhh)! (A clapping sound) Giselle: All right everyone (Suddenly the animals appear, birds, rats, oh and Pip the enchanted chipmunk) Giselle: Well, it’s always nice to make new friends, Pip, can you pass me the scissors please? Pip: Mm hmm (with his movements and squeaky voice) Pip: What are you planning, in this strange place to be? Giselle: As long as I am here in this strange place, a new experience, I'll need something to wear. Aha, these curtains will do just fine Pip: Oh, oh (she strolls across the room wearing a smile and a new gown) Giselle: Why are you staring at me? (swaying his body as he holds his paws together, he struggles with the word) Pip: B-e-a-u-t-i-ful! Mm hm Giselle: You really think so? The mice and the rabbits did help with the sewing (holding his breath and puffing out his chest, he sighs) Pip: Mm hmmm Giselle: I think I’ll open a boutique; I’ll call it Andalashia Fashions (she sighs) Giselle: Oh me oh my, I hope Edward likes my new dress Epilogue Whether a magical or real world, yearning heroines are just that. A princess who dreams of true love's kiss, realizes in the real world it's not as easy as just true love's kiss. A journey ends as she matures, no longer needs to be rescued, she evolves into an independent woman.

Dear, sweet Anaya, I’m not sure if I’ve seen the film but what I am sure of is this enchanting read. I loved it and was so ‘enchanted’. Captivated and charmed. Love the characters especially Pip - chipmunks are adorable! You did a wonderful job of bringing the scenes to life through the dialogue. Perfect. Felt like the reader was mesmerised by a scene in the film. Hope you will write more like this. I’m such a big kid at heart and love all this fantasy escapism from time to time.

You should seriously attach audios to some of your more dramatic or humorous writings. I've done dozens over the years

Anaya, there's a scene where she is singing in Central Park. For a character actress, she could certainly make things seem dreamy and wonderful. Absolutely like a character from a fantasy world who is placed in our midst. It was all very striking indeed, and I can understand why it would make an impression on many of us.

Thank you, Victor! I know you'll enjoy the movie as much as I did when it came out. It relies on dialogue and not descriptions of scenes. We'll see.

Anaya, I also loved the film. Amy Adams did a wonderful job as the princess and exhibited a lot of funny and sweet characteristics. Really very charming. I remember that scene very well. There are a lot of noble and a few ignoble emotions portrayed in the film. It was rather striking. Thanks for reminding me of this classic!! Hope all young women can realize their dreams no matter where they are.

Duke I must have seen the movie about five times, like a little girl I was mesmerized by Amy's charming performance. I've never seen anything like it.

Hey Anaya... This is a charming vignette that captures the spirit of Giselle's journey as she navigates the complexities of both the real and fantastical worlds. Through its vivid imagery, lively characters, and playful dialogue, the scene invites readers to join Giselle on her adventure and celebrate the magic of creativity, friendship, and self-discovery.

I tried to make the characters come alive and choosing an animal character made things a little more challenging, but I love it, glad you enjoyed it! Makes my Mother's Day! :)
