Did you receive in consolation’s arms cool water in a cup when soul was dry? As cruel death diminished life’s sweet charms, then did the Shepherd comfort every sigh. Now sorrow plays its dirge into my soul - heartbreak and dread are all my eyes can view. Caring, you come to solace and console from the same cup that once so heartened you. That wisdom gained by you when trials hit; you gave as I was grappling with foul death. That fortitude which in my bones He knit, I share as illness fights her ev’ry breath. God comforts us that we may so console, with his own love, another suff’ring soul*. * Inspired by II Corinthians 1:4 "He comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the same comfort we have received."

Thank you, Gordon. This was inspired by our fellow poet, Wendy Watson, who is also a classical music lover, as are you and I. We both love a Mendelssohn piece from his "Songs Without Words" called 'Consolation'. She suggested writing words to fit the melody. Enjoy your day, my friend ~ John
