Concrete Memories

A long time ago
when I turned six
from city moved
to country sticks.
------------------
There it was safe
to stay outside
to run and play
and bike to ride.
------------------
Past front yard,
paved and gray
a concrete walk
filled up my day.
------------------
It stretched far
a place to race
or just to walk
at a slow pace.
-----------------
Wasn't straight
did curve some
so that made it
much more fun.
-----------------
Counted cracks
before each one
a promise made
and it was done.
------------------
I would be good
clean my room
help dear mom
push the broom.
------------------
Setup the table
my supper, eat
help dry dishes
mommy's treat.
-----------------
And my studies
would get done
review my book
of words for fun.
-------------------
But special part
about this walk
my good friend
we loved to talk!
-------------------
She lived a ways
down the street
on our walkway
we would meet.
-----------------
Clasping hands
we'd skip along
happy, running
sing cute songs.
------------------
A concrete walk
paved and gray
brought me joy
most every day!
