Come sit with me, asked the frail old lady in a weak voice, so on her bed I sat and held her wrinkled hands and smiled my best; my job was way too busy and I had little time but I stayed. Please tell me the truth- am I dying? (I knew she had no family) Answering her was difficult but I said, yes you are; silent tears fell down her cheek- I knew she was suffering from old age and I had great pity for her crooked bones. In my job as nurse great compassion and empathy is needed, and so on each shift I try to transform a life by just being me. Oh, nothing could have prepared me for this - except God ! ______________________________ June 6, 2019 Poetry/Acrostic/Compassion Copyright Protected, ID 19-1150-408-02 All Rights Reserved. No one is ever really prepared to deal with death at first. Although, we know it is coming soon to others, until their last gasp of air. Then it really hits us. Nice write, Constance. ~Charlie

Charles, thanks for visiting my poem and commenting and the compliment, my job as nurse taught me so much about compassion and life and the dignity of facing ones death. I had to leave my job because of health problems but the old folks I cared for will always be in my heart .
