Coming to Peace
Peace is like a shadow that follows us
Trailing in the wake of busy lives
Elusive if we chase it
Unrecognized when we finally come to rest
Sitting right on top of it
So to speak
Without letting it in
Ever patient, ever at peace
This is in fact our resting state
The gap between breaths, between beats
The very moment between
Needing to do or have anything
A moment, complete in itself,
That may feel an obstacle to all we want to achieve
And so we propel our lives forward
From birth to death
One long arc
Of seeking something more
Than what was here all along
The ground that holds the shadow
And all the dust that settles
