Colours
Sunset celebrations ensue
on the coast of Key West,
bidding adieu to azure blue.
Visitors travel here on a quest
to see a sky by evening repossessed.
Silky blonde strands caress the horizon
as the sun begins its descent,
the first sign day is done.
Onlookers attend the miraculous event
to see colours only heaven can present.
With music and red wine
revelers toast each dying day.
Sailboats’ silhouettes cross the shoreline,
dark profiles gently sway,
a graceful ballet in nautical display.
The South’s own aurora borealis
unfolds with magenta, lavender and gold.
Deepening rainbow hues capture dusk’s bliss
as cameras click for memories to hold
until day surrenders uncontrolled.

*There is a sundown celebration every day in Key West.
Entertainers perform and people travel great distances
to participate in the ritual.
