Coexistence

city of increasing fervor heavy with sealed glass windows in vaulted towers sky-high protection from the steady spew of cars urban sidewalks in the private grayness of fall where sparrows in a small rush of flutter (like a jailbreak) peck at specks of discarded rice paths of commonality in people spaces of rapid trudging that re-jigs cellphone foot work a jump at impulse birds of an all forgiving grace hop on concrete beyond appearance messy to seize the refuge of home Poem composed January 18, 2023

Birds seem to be able to adapt, Brian, Yet i remember when being brought up in the Yorkshire Dale, loved the winters especially the Robins and the Blue Tits, and their antics around the milk bottle on the doorsteps. Harry

Hello Harry Thank you for your message. Birds, indeed, seem to adapt to intrusions. I love the image of birds about milk bottles left on doorsteps. Be well. Sincerely, Brian

It is a sad predicament for the feathered ones and yet they still grace and beautify the ugliness humans have created - reminded me of the pigeon in my morning star write - my neighbor who dwells in the eaves of a roof… love how you wrote this :)

Quite remarkable, though, how sparrows can adapt to the hardening sprawl of cities + snatch survival midst concrete walkways. Thank you, Susan, for your kind appraisal of my posting. Cheers Brian

Brian, I promised to look in on your work. But there is such a plethora of outstanding lines I don't know where to begin., "rush of flutter" in this one many more in others. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy! Elizabeth

Greetings Deb, Most appreciative of your visit + comment. I did neglect to include the odd tree planted between slabs of concrete - another small refuge for birds. Be well. Brian

I took from this that urban life is forever encroaching on nature and we humans are accepting, oblivious and / or ignorant to it all. I really enjoyed the read Brian. Cheers - Gary

Many thanks, Gary. Another image that struck me on my walk downtown. The persistent presence of sparrows that seize discarded carry out food. Your insights are most accurate, however. Cheers, Brian

Very descriptive a large city. We don't go to the large cities much anymore because of some of the topics within your lines. There are some wonderful events, places, and museums to visit which I enjoy so much, but our age takes its toll. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my page. Sara

Hello Sara, Quite wise of you + your husband to bypass cities. There is often a sterility to downtown towers. As you note, however, museums/art galleries are the cultural bright lights. Thank you for your visit. Sincerest regards, Brian
