Clouds From the Ground Up
I love gossamer clouds that arise from the ground,
Or appear in the sky (when conditions are fair),
Winds that hold them aloft too can carve them quite round
(As a supercell rotates a starship's born there!)
A cloud wall dark as night may not shimmer with light,
But its lightning does pledge that it's close to Hell's edge.
As a child, I once dreamed I might lasso a cloud,
And then train it as one might an eagle or hawk,
Never sure what Mom'd say, or if I was allowed?
In a box with my toys, do you think it would squawk?
Oh, to soar like a bird with no tears seen or heard,
Safe there! Child's view of love; Watch the Earth from above!
Now the adult still dreams of a flight to the moon,
Wants to rise to clouds' heartland away from the crowd,
Might the touch of cloud's skin make a calloused man swoon!
Has fool ever been born more in love with a cloud?
Though in childhood I thought a soft cloud might get caught,
Man learned all life's God's stardust! Now heaven I trust!
