Closet Sickness

burying her face while counting wool,
each, an empty silhouette
in young hands that hold like old —
her shadow instead of dress falls

each, an empty silhouette
the bones that burst apart come back —
her shadow instead of dress falls,
a little girl with safety pins in her glass

the bones that burst apart come back
in young hands that hold like old —
a little girl with safety pins in her glass,
burying her face while counting wool.

Juxtaposing young and old and a seamless narrative weaving in the refrains, made this a feast to read, Paige. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hey Paige, I applaud your pantoum. Impressive use of graphic imagery. That was excellent.

Great achievement writing a pantoum. This one is pretty but also seems sad.

Happy New Year Paige, my dear friend, Well you cut straight to the bone with its haunting repetition and those empty silhouettes in young hands. It evokes such a rawness of a little girl hiding in wool and shadows, bones bursting vast yet fragile. Winter Blessings, Dear Paige, Daniel

The pantoum, perfect choosing for such engaging thoughts. The shadow does run longer as time does for little girls. "her shadow instead of dress falls" " an empty silhouette" lines are brilliantly executed!

I love the line, "each an empty silence. I can feel the clothes brushing against me, and a sense of memory.

love the pantoum form...and your poem is perfectly executed These lines touched me: a little girl with safety pins in her glass, burying her face while counting wool.

Loved the counting wool & pins in glass, PH. Certainly, you must be one of the best “introspection poets” on this site. Feels like you’re doing a spring clean in winter. Perhaps a New Year’s clean. Pantoum is good for introspection & memory poems because of the repetition it calls for, so very good choice of form, Hun. Have a beautiful day.
