Citrine Leaf

A citrine leaf in lingered lilt
did savor breeze of sapphire whisk
                 and Autumn’s honey-secrets spilt.
A hopscotch star.. an ember brisk,

she sighed and fell— then took her chance!
a citrine leaf in lingered lilt
                 with wind-a-whirl in saffron dance,
     below the western-cirrus gilt.

Before the winds began to wilt
and aspen whispers rose a wail,
a citrine leaf in lingered lilt
did fly where camp-fire-clouds grew pale,

where songs are spun from angel dreams,
their rapture wrapped her like a quilt,
                 no longer needing rhinestone streams,
a citrine leaf in lingered lilt.

How could I have missed this beautiful Quatern, dear Susan! Like a gem-studdied tiara it contains a richness that is not easy to describe. I doubt if ever a leaf received such a captivating tribute as this one! The technical elements have definitely not gone unnoticed (alliteration, imagery, figurative language, etc). ~ Congratulatios on placing 1st my friend. Warm regards & Hugs // paul

Oh my, dearest Susan, this poem has compelled me to save it in my FAVs! I am truly awestruck by the mellifluous cadence with which this flows whilst also serving as the source of story that narrates itself with so much depth and emotions.."a citrine leaf in lingered lily" Who stays resilient through every storm of life and then finally finding solace. Your use of colours has just made me go wow with such eloquent descriptions! "Autumn’s honey-secrets", "sapphire whisk", "saffron dance" Gorgeous

This is stunning!always a poem with gems in them adds so much beauty. Citrine a powerful gem, also love the rhymes and descriptive diction uve used here talented poetess. You have an exquisite way of expressing and weaving words. “Honey secrets spilt” love that and also “ songs are spun from angel dreams” you’ve left me in awe and speechless with how youve paired words together, and created imagery, rhinestone streams! I can see the citrine leaf dancing as campfire clouds grew pale! Impeccable!

My dear friend, I came back on early and posted an old poem I wrote back in 1974. One to be a three-part series when I return here. Decided to see if you presented new poetry and I found this truly illustrious new gem!!! One that could be by written by Byron or Keats, But was your superbly crafted poetry instead!! A new fav for me! God bless you..
