Tomorrow's dawn will start the longest day When summer takes the torch and starts to run He'll summon all the children of the sun His followers that love his warming way They'll laugh and celebrate in outdoor play It is the greatest time for water fun Each claiming to be summer's fav'rite son Absorbing every ultraviolet ray And when the sun lies down to take his rest Their celebrations go in to the night Cavorting with the moon, who's unimpressed He knows they only like him 'cause he's bright They'll fall asleep their backs toward the west As children of the sun await first light by Daniel Turner Miltonic sonnet #2

This is wonderful Daniel !! And the picture drew me in as well.......I have one of my daughter and grandson very much like the one above, as they were cavorting over rapids on their trip to Costa Rica last summer! They are both children of the sun, who had such fun, that they will keep that day tucked away forever ! :) Thank you for the smile!

I only wish I had the way to make meter work the way you do. You say so much in just a few words! Great job!

SO COOL, Daniel! I have a sonnet summer's child and you have children of the Sun now! I just went through it again and figured out what Miltonic style means. I wonder how many sonnet styles must be out there now! I loved that part about "cavorting with the moon" I sure recall those days of childhood!

Stunningly beautiful sonnet, Daniel. The whole piece is so well put together, it all meshes perfectly. But, I love the complete second stanza: They laugh and celebrate in outdoor play ... it's the greatest time for water fun ... each claiming to be summer's fav'rite son ... absorbing every ultraviolet ray. You really know how to put someone inside the heart of your poems. Fantastic poetic artistry. Love and best wishes, my dear friend.

This was really well written Daniel. You have painted a wonderful picture of the summer solstice and I love the ending with their backs to the west as the await first light. Really cool my friend.

Thank you, Chris. I appreciate it. I used to be a sun worshipper but now the heat really zaps me fast. I'm more of an A/C man:) I prefer Autumn, about October:)
