Childhood Reflections

I can recall a joyful time, When life was but a child’s game – A vivid picture in my mind I hope will always stay the same A time when I was very young And life was full of mystery; A time when silly songs were sung, And friends became my only need All thought was given to the now And none was granted to the past, As we would quickly gather ‘round And play our games out on the grass And every day would never fail to bring A better game to play or song to sing, With mere imagination as our key, Unlocking life's discoveries A simple ride through sunlit gravel streets; A careless slide along a gentle slope – Exhilarations that I used to keep, Relived within, provide a special hope I pray these memories will never fade, For they remind me now of what I lack, But even if these treasures can be saved, With them, again, I know I can’t go back.
