Chicken Lessons
My Uncle Ben brought us a hen
He named Alice, one afternoon
He said, "She's sitting on some eggs,"
"That will start to hatch very soon "
Alice hatched Tiny and Thumper
They were hens and we were so proud
Then roosters Blackie and Lucky hatched
They turned out to be very loud
Once a dog got into the pen
But ran when we started to yell
Feathers and chicks flew everywhere
The damage at first hard to tell
We found that Thumper lost an eye
When we posed a careful vetting
Uncle Ben called her "bugger eye"
Which to us was highly upsetting!
We learned that hens can lay eggs
But they couldn't learn any tricks
And we learned that roosters crow
And that chickens and dogs don't mix!
