Chick a Chick a Chooka
We hid and were silent. Okay, wait for it, she said.
I was not hopeful. Thought she was crazy in her head.
Being quiet was not easy as we were only ten or so.
Encouraging October moon gave us a sweet yellow glow.
Chick a chick a chooka Chooka Chooka Shake.
Wander doodle bug balm. Crazy night at Lake.
Brick a brick a brooka Brooka Brooka Thee
Pick a pick a pooka. Come and dance with me.
With horror I realized that a long red bony hand had me.
He drew me out of the bushes and we began to dance beautifully.
We whirled and twirled. He laughed with unbelievable glee.
My friend was clapping and whistling from her hiding point, a tree.
Chick a chick a chooka, the red skeleton said with care.
He tossed me up and I flew past an owl with a big stare.
Brick a brick a brooka, the red skeleton said as I crashed.
Come pick a pick a pooka. You’ll find another bashed.
I had never danced with a skeleton, but frankly, it was fun.
We danced into the night, and he began to call me “hon”.
I politely extracted myself when he tried to get a kiss.
I am sorry, I told him, but I am only ten, a little miss.
