and post notes and photos about your poem like Rio Jansen.
Okay, so I broke the rules. This is a poem I did not write. ChatGPT5 wrote it. But in my defense, ChatGPT5 wrote the poem based on my writing style, so it’s kind of like I wrote it, right? I asked ChatGPT5 to write a poem in my style, Rio Jansen’s style. ChatGPT5 asked, “Who the heck is Rio Jansen? I can’t find any poet named Rio Jansen on the internet.” I said Rio Jansen is a poet on poetrysoup.com/, and ChatGPT5 hightailed it over there, consumed all (or part of my poems, not sure which one) and came back with a few examples of poems in the style of Rio Jansen. This is one of them. And do I like the poem? It’s got its charm. I’d revise it a bit, but it’s definitely in line with what I can produce, be that for bad or for worse.
ChatGPT5 also stroked my ego with comments such as Rio Jansen’s poetic voice is gentle humor wrapped in light verse. A poem like "I had the neurosurgeon do a little utility work in my head" plays with quirky, everyday absurdity, blending clinical imagery and wit. His work also shows nostalgic simplicity and sweet melancholia. In "Remember that time", he evokes tender, shared memories with minimal but deeply resonant language: “Remember that time we found a dime and bought two ice cream cones at Thrifty? That may very well be the only time you and me shared anything fifty fifty.”
If you want to have ChatGPT5 stroke your ego and write a few poems in your style, goto https://chatgpt.com/ and ask it to write poems in your style. It may tell you it can't find your work on the internet. If it gives you that response, tell it your work can be found on PoetrySoup.com. It will read a sample your work, give you it's overall assessment of your work, and then write a poem in your style. ChatGPT5 is free, and for me, this interaction with AI was a lot of fun! If you try it, send me an email and let me know what you think.
