Changing the Course of Fate
No glamour, no riches or happiness
I foresee in my future and often
I ask myself with truthfulness:
If I had tried and climbed over that gate
I could have changed the course of fate,
and living life without hope I carried this dream
inside until it suddenly came crushing down...
even through deep darkness I saw stars gleam!
Nothing was given to me and in those
times of need I sought comfort in prayer,
and after a long winter I waited to see roses
bloom along the path that once was sunless;
did anyone come near and ask me if I was afraid
and hold this hand to end what I couldn't bear?
A house built with wisdom will certainly withstand
those winter and summer storms on an open ranch;
I was that one being lashed by the strongest wind
and stood firm without being shifted a single inch!
After having lived and seen all this man could see,
all regrets have melted quickly with the warmth
of spring, and although I am not young anymore...
the thrill to run to the adventurous sea excites me;
there I will set sail and ride on waves that'll roll forth:
old thoughts of defeat will be left at the gloomy shore!
