There is a sadness In the sunset As the dying sun Fades away, Twilight mourns In solemn silhouettes, And birds retire To their nests. Then at moonrise We see a remnant Of sun’s beauty in Its reflected glow As darkness covers Half the Earth— We slumber, awaiting Sun’s glorious rebirth. © Connie Marcum Wong July 11, 2015 Open Poetry Contest Sponsor Charlote Puddifoot

Oh, this is beautiful. I love the coming-full-circle feel of this poem - the death of the sun, followed by rebirth, a cycle of sadness and joy. This is a fave for me, and a definite 7.

Connie, It appears to me that the picture should be blushing to sit beside such a wonderfully painted "word picture". Glad Charlotte didn't omit this one..

this is another very nice, tranquil poem that pairs well with jan's haiku...you were naughty and sneaked your name onto it but I wasn't going to discard it just because of that! lol congrats on your win in my contest :)

oh I know they are many little islands and a few bigger ones, Connie, but everyone on the mainland probably talks like me haha. Have you ever visited the LDS polynesian center? I hear it is really nice. Yes, Jenny my sister is in a very humid state, Arkansas. Today was nice and warm here in Utah.

Beauty is reflected within all of nature whether it be sun, cloud or rain and you have captured its essence within your words. Emile.

Hi Connie. Have you ever felt catching your breath while reading something so vivid the image is already there in your mind even without the picture? That's what I felt here, there is that heart-stopping second, you know? Your poem is in itself of such delicate beauty...must fav...7 hugs too

Thank you Eve. When the volcano erupts on the Big island of Hawaii, we have the most beautiful sunsets. Thanks so much Eve. Hugs, Connie
