Caution - This Poem May Contain Some Humour

When my husband was in hospital, he was given an afternoon tea Scones and cake and sandwiches, simply delicious as you can see The final treat was to eat the scone served with jam and butter On opening the butter packet these words made hum splutter He saw ‘Caution Contains Milk’ was written on the label Found this so amusing he kept the label on the table I know people have allergies but this is taking it too far Soon they’ll be telling me I need petrol to drive my car Some people think the Brits are dull, I intend to dispel this rumour Think I may post on my poems ‘ this may contain some humour’ Jan Allison 28th May 2014

Your poem with ten perfect rimes Took me by surprise with a grin On my lips widening my chin: Remembering me all these times Where I also encountered Such obviously stupid warnings Aimed mostly towards naive beings, Dummy consumers protected, Firms preventing against lawsuits more likely for any disputes ! But at least for this nonsense shared By you, Jan, our laugh is paired ! Charles, from Versailles, France

(1st time commenting here : pity that my replied-poem display has not been followed, and words have been just thrown out shapelessly !)(Lucky I did use capital letters at beginning of each verse !)

Oh it should have a warning on it Jake lol. We still have the little butter pack label as a reminder of this crazy crazy thing but it mad us laugh and a poem came out of it in the end and its making others laugh and that's what I try to achieve in as many of my poems as possible. hugs Jan xxxx

Dear Jan, Great spoof on the required "caution" labels. Of course real butter contains milk. I wouldn't eat it if it didn't. Better gas up the tank. Your humor is on a roll! Oops, that should be a scone. LOL Love, carolyn

this is a GREAT poem, Jan. I really enjoyed the way you compared the whole thing to being told petrol is in a car. And the title is genius!

Thanks Andrea I am glad you enjoyed the poem and title. To me the title is as important in the poem in trying to draw people in to read it - it obviously worked! hugs Jan xxx

Great write. Being half-British myself, I like understatement and dry aplomb. I think more correctly that butter is made from a milk extract--cream. Ricotta cheese is the best stuff though, as it is made from the high protein whey instead of the high fat cream.
