("Outside Looking In Merit Badge", 2011, original oil) Castles Made of Sand I’m better in my own mind Than in anyone else’s. I’ve never seen a mirror or photo That shows my true face. In case there’s any doubt I live in a castle made of sand Contented and secure in the knowledge My ocean-front property Will always have value Even when I am long gone And everyone has forgotten The legend That once was simply A burden Too heavy to bear.
