Carpe Noctem

Up above the moon shines brightly; starlight touches earth so lightly; passions teasing impolitely. Midnight whispers, “Carpe noctem.” Blowing soft the summer breezes through her hair as nighttime pleases, and the moonlight softly teases. Voices urging, “Carpe noctem.” Standing close our bodies facing; hand in hand our fingers lacing; gentle touches, hearts are racing. Longings begging, “Carpe noctem.” Wonder where her thoughts are leading; do my eyes reveal my pleading? Will she, with her voice conceding, whisper softly, “Carpe noctem?” January 10, 2022 Carpe Noctem - Latin for "seize the night" Poem of the Week - January 16, 2022

John my dear friend, she undoubtedly heard your whisper, she knows you well and she does concede, for it is you and you alone that she ever wants to 'seize the night' with. Your soul is kind John as is your heart and although your begging and longing can be heard, hers is silent, but just as passionate. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer. jENNIFER.

After hearing “carpe diem” so many times, it’s cool to hear the opposite “carpe noctem”. Beautiful, romantic poem.

This is wonderful because there are some wonderful phrases but the rhyme flows so well it goes almost unnoticed. Did you know this is featured on the 100 best new poems - another bit of magic, Mr. Gondolf My latin is somewhat rusty.. doesn’t “Carpe Noctem” mean “grab the butt?” - if so, I think you have an excellent rap lyric here. =]

John, this is an outstanding write, and very worthy of its placement at the top of the best new poems list and as POTW. The triplet of rhymes with the recurring Carpe Noctem finish is a captivating form and your meter and flow are always so flawless and natural. A nice twist on the familiar Carpe Diem, and filled with a romantic and sensual vibe. You are such a gifted poet. Love it, and a fave for me ~ John
