Card Tricks

Can’t have I don’t know what to say
Too many friends I want to help so much
Too much money It’s just another card
Too many birthdays A way to stay in touch
Two out of three? To say how much I miss you
Too much to carp Would take me so damn long
Unpack your harp My blues don’t touch the issue
                                  Why can’t we get along

I remembered your birthday Tears make writing hard to do
And sent you this card Words too hard to find
The least I could do Time’s supposed to heal all woe
When aging’s so hard The wait is so unkind
Going forward’s not easy It’s been too long
If you keep looking back And past the time to say
I really have to tell you
                                   You made me love today
And the cliche of the day is
Not meant to be unkind In olden times one walked to everywhere
But belatedly I find Or was it two together anywhere
You are ever on my mind I wonder as I wander through a field of dew
                               If sunlight brightens up
The way I feel for you
