Car Keys

The day my dad handed me the car keys,

he also handed me a coin.

He said,

put this in your shoe and never take it out.

If you need help,

you have this coin to call home.

Today,

all the kids have their phones with them 24/7.

A great thing to have in emergencies,

how about the rest of the time.

We don't eat together,

we are on our phones.

We don't talk face to face,

we are on our phones.

Bell's great technology,

has it gone awry.

so true... but sadly they have become an unavoidable curse without which our life becomes a real curse .... What a contradiction ! Great entry, Paula ! All the best !

We're all cactus if the satellites and power grids go down. Perhaps we need that for a further shake up to remind us of our basic humanity. We are cyborgs already, just about. "We are already a cyborg," Musk said. "People don't realize — we are already a cyborg because we are so well integrated with our phones and our computers. The phone is almost like an extension of yourself." People send texts rather than talk these days...makes you wonder, will we all stop physically making vocal sounds one day, to speak, to sing, to cry, to laugh, to make love, to procreate, it will all become devoid of 'true' feeling to become robotic. The prospect of the singularity is already in full swing. The value of your father handing you that coin, is priceless. Leanne Xx

Thanks for your note. Glad you like my dad's coin in my shoe for a payphone call home. That was many, years ago. My phone will not texts. People live/die by their phone. Not me. Phones have taken over the world. You are so right when you say, "We're all cactus if the satellites and power grids go down." We are all done. Are we becoming robotic? What a thought. I know what it is like to receive a letter that brought joy and elation. This generation has no idea what it feels like to open the box with emotional hope that only it will elate or deflate. Waiting was romantic to some who desired a 'word' and it brought news about their loved ones who lived far away. This generation knows not the joys of anticipation. I agree with your write. ...CayCay

Thanks for your note. Glad you enjoyed this fun write. Remember buying pretty boxes of stationary/cards? When sending them to the boys scenting them with perfume? It was a wow for them. Cards/letters were so much fun to get by mail. This great joy of buying/mailing/receiving is being missed by so many. I still send a few out. Have a great/blessed~day/week writing away................

Phones what we do without them, as long as we can find car keys, which for us are always hiding. With today's technology and cell phones we can go anywhere and still keep in touch with our family. Great write dear Paula, Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Just one teeny-tiny question, Paula: Still got that coin in your shoe? Yes? Could you give me a call at 1-800-LUD-DITE? Thanks! ~ Caveman Cory

Thanks for your note. Glad you like this fun phone write. Answer: Coin was spent along time ago. Then went to a quarter. Yep, it was also spent. No coin to call. Have a great/blessed day~~week writing away................

Not many call boxes left now Paula, there is a new one not far from my home, but I’ve yet to see anyone use it, the cell phone is so much more than a phone, it’s actually a whole universe in our pocket, I did enjoy this nostalgic piece, all the best in contest, cheers David

Ha! They used to make shoes that held a dime for the emergency telephone call, but now it would need to hold $1 - if you could find a payphone! Aloha!

Thanks for your note. The shoes were called penny loafers. I never had them. The coin was in my shoe under my toes. Payphones, what are they??? They went out with the dinosaurs. Today the kids have no idea what they are. Take a walk along the beach for me. Have a great/blessed day writing away................
