Captain Of Your Own Ship

A wise poet said:
“You are captain of your own ship!”
My employer said: “Not here, Buddy!”
My wife said, “Yes dear, after you take
out the garbage and mow the grass…”
My son said, “please come to my baseball
practice, daddy…?” God said: “ask Michael,
my authority on sail
and ultimate direction….”

                  A wise poet…?

Thank you very much, Paula. I think my first introduction to Wise...is when realizing just how little I really know.

hmm we have come here to serve and not be served, I can deeply understand the man's dilemma, but I think he is rich beyond freedom here, I'm sure we both agree, Loved the tender write Joe, you always surprise me with your content, and beautiful heart :)

Man and woman of course. No greater joy than to be blessed to serve; thank you, Vie -- I really do try to be the best I can. Blessings my friend.

We have to constantly pay heed to others' whims and expectations. Each one may have a different request. Many a time we have to oblige them. But ultimately we should be the controller and captain of our own ship. Otherwise we will float hither and tither aimless. There is much truth in your poem, dear Joe, though written in a light hearted vein.

For sure, nothing should we allow to get in the way of our deeply felt soul mission. Very wise and thoughtful comment. Thank you, Valsa.

I get the essence of your poem, my friend. We have limited powers over our own life. Your examples I can relate to. Perhaps the poet was conveying determination and resolve. Are you referring to the poem INVICTUS?

Thank you, Vijay. "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." A great poem! About perseverance and inner strength. Mine is just a a variation on theme, humor was my intention. “Freewill vs Determinism” an old topic, to this day yet debated by scholars. I actually do believe that we have complete control over our situations and destiny, myself entirely convinced of reincarnation and Karma.

This made me smile haha. Good one, this wise poet, seems very optimistic in life and your response here through poetry shows that you are a person that prioritizes responsibilities around and find pleasure through being there for your loved ones. Beautiful and fun, i loved it. Pleasure always reading your work
