Canzone Di Rimorso -Song of Remorse-
The symphony that was my heart
has dimmed to a cello serenade,
a slow and mournful melody,
a silhouette of love casting its long shadow over me.
I am a singer without a voice, a poet without a muse.
A heart without music hardly beats at all and without you,
mine beats less and less every day. Send me a song so that I may once again sing.
Lend me an ear so that my love song may be heard.
O love, love that I have known, is it a sin to ask what I ask of you?
You have sat beneath the fall of tears,
until nothing was left but a pillar of salt.
Therefore count my love unworthy,
my knees tremble with the burden of carrying my heavy heart.
I can scarcely compete with the warbler who brings song to thee,
and yet, because I love you,
I conceal the grace to live…
still in love… and yet,
in vain.
