Cancer as Spiritual Teacher

In every life, lessons are sown, Truths to unearth, to make our own. Some are simple, like recipes to taste, Others, complex, not one bit of waste. Our souls may shout from depths of pain, But from such trials, wisdom's what we gain. With open hearts and minds to blend, New paths appear, old ways we mend. To learn from cancer, a task so stark, Yet within its shadows, a divine spark. It's a dance of balance, a call to find Our truest selves, in heart and mind. The lessons I've learned, humbly so: To let fear and ego gracefully go. To tread a path where trust is a must, And love guides my steps, in the divine I trust. Cancer is more than its physical trace, It holds lessons deep, for us to embrace. With clarity and courage, let's each find, In spiritual truth, peace of mind.

Surrender and acceptance holds the key, also recognition that we are eternal spirit dwelling in this decaying mind-body vehicle

Seeker, Beautiful reminder. Thank you! Two of my favorite consciousness studies professors were Debashish Banerji: https://www.ciis.edu/profiles/debashish-banerji and Amit Goswami: https://www.amitgoswami.org/. In peace, Don

Having a cancer diagnosis is sobering for sure. I believe peace of mind comes from being kind and doing the right thing on a regular basis. This poem is very hopeful in tone and meeting people who administer healthcare is a real privilege. We are so very lucky to have people who do that for us.

Hi Duke, actually this is the lead poem in a poetry book that I published in 2018 by the same name. I just revised the book and it is out as the second addition now. Thank you. Don.

Don, your poem theme is one I can relate to big time, in fact I never wrote poetry until November 2013 when my hubby was actually in cancer surgery. he has now had cancer 3 times but we don't let it get us down and I self published my first book 'A Giggle a Day... Can Chase The Blues Away' ten years after his cancer crept into our lives. Cancer has changed our lives in so many ways but it doesnt control us, it was a wake up call and we live every day to the full. hugs Jan xx

Hi Jan, thank you so much for sharing the personal story. Working with cancer patients, I see the challenges they and their family members go through. I too am my cancer survivor. Fingers crossed! Don.

The singsong rhyme make a serious topic more palatable.

I agree. I work with cancer patients, and with some, I use poetry in a mindful, therapeutic way...
