Cain and Abel of September 11th
On September 11th,
In the early morning,
When my train stopped
In the New Jersey fields,
I saw the Twin Towers.
Painted by sunrays
Into a golden tone, they were
Climbing the New York City's
Peaceful blue sky.
Two magnificent monuments
To able human minds.
On the wings of terror,
Propelled by hatred and revenge
Praying to their God of killers,
They came out of nowhere.
The barbarians.
Suddenly,
They came
Unexpected.
Without any warning.
It was an early morning
Of September 11.
In my office, a short distance away
I heard a sudden thunder.
My building shook up.
I looked through the window.
I saw people running away
Down Broadway.
White paper sheets were snowing
Down slowly in the air.
It was a nice, warm, sunny
September 11th day
When the downtown Manhattan
Became hell.
The news soon came:
An airplane hit the North Tower, then
The South one faced the same fate.
Standing on the street, nearby,
I saw the Towers.
Bleeding fire, smoke was
Spreading through their wounds.
The fire was getting stronger but
They still stood. Firm.
Wounded heroes.
Till their end.
It was impossible to imagine
The horror of victims, their shock.
Their pain.
There was no warning.
Nobody expected it.
It was such a nice, sunny, warm morning.
It was supposed to be September's
Another great day!
Suddenly I realized--
Something
Went wrong with our world.
Apocalypse came.
Time was shifted back
To the primitive ages,
Long before civilization began.
Long before people learned
The pain of unnecessary wars.
Long before Moses,
Carrying stone tables with
The “Thou shall not kill” commandment,
Came back
From his meeting with God.
Then I saw nomads --
On camels’ backs,
Somewhere, in a desert.
I saw --Cain,
Jealous for love of God,
Killed his brother Abel.
Bloody revenge --
Now, with weapons,
Stronger then knives, one may kill
Many more Abels and again,
For primitive barbarians,
It is much easier to kill --
In the name of God.
