Buy Whatever You Crave

Spend, spend, spend, spend Buy whatever you crave It's old-fashioned to save You might wait 'til your grave- stone is finished before you've enough for that fancy house on the hill or the antique car with the wide grille Why overstress? You've got all your stuff... You might want to turn my voice down But Dad won't always be around to pay off those credit hounds or foot the bill for nursing care 'til you're laid in the ground

We do...do so much. (Didn't want to write do-do. lol)... I've seen that over time, it sinks in to the next generation... My oldest daughter, in her 40's, has done so much for her kids...And I myself, who hardly appreciated what my parents went through with me, have busted my derriere, along with my wife, for all of our children... And so it goes... Eventually, youth is not wasted on the young, methinks. Thanks for your thought-producing comment. Best always, Gershon

In South Africa and throughout Africa life is not overly expensive, let me put it this way, we have a house with a pool, airr conditioning, irrigation system, garden services once a week and a domestic helper, but if we take all of this, we still can't replace it for the same anywhere overseas. Even retirement homes are cheaper in South Africa - so we are truly locked in.! Blessings, Jennifer.

Sounds like it could be worse... We're locked in here in Chicago, 'cos you can't sell your house for enough to buy an equivalent house in a less dangerous place... And you know what, it could be (a lot) worse! ~ It's a lock!

You can't take it with you that's for sure. I wrote a poem about a guy who died and was being transported to the cemetery followed by a U-Haul truck with all his possessions - I doubt St Pete let him enter the gates with all that baggage! Press on, my friend - Bob H

Heh, heh... Reg. your comment: I think I know who that guy was! It was Amenhotep II / Pharaoh during the Israelites' Exodus from Egypt. He mistakenly thought that he was going 'upstairs,' hauled all that baggage up there, and --- then got kicked all the downstairs where it burned to a crisp anyway. lol. Thanks, Bob! :) gw

I've never done this before, but I'm going to re-punctuate your comment: "A point, well... made!" ~ Uh, er, well, Sputtering Away

Spend it like no tomorrow, if you have savings you pay for your care in the UK, but those who haven't done an honest day's work in their lives get it free, who's the idiot? Tom

In the USA, you can't get it free unless you're absolutely indigent. The govt. forces you to sell your car and even your home --- although Congress is trying to amend that one --- to qualify for free nursing care in a nursing home. Of course, the homes that take the indigent are the worst of the worst of the worst. And that's really bad. Better just to die straightaway. So, here people buy long-term care insurance, as I did. It's not cheap. But at least if offers peace-of-mind.... Happy Friday, Gershon

Spend spend spend - this used to be a mantra I knew something about; I am so glad I am wiser now. Not smarter, just wiser. Good reminder in this one.

You are no longer the grasshopper, sitting in her hammock and sipping lemonade. You are now the ant, industriously saving and storing up for a rainy day... And now I have reduced your comment from the level of the sublime to that of the ridiculous... ~ Reducto ad absurdia! (I think that's Swahili for 'Ciao!'). ~ gw
