But Why
Children will come
again asking “why?”
What will we say?
Should we even try?
I’m betting most people
won’t get too far
I’m just not okay with
“That’s just who we are.”
Especially since
we have freedom to choose
all we might gain
all we could lose
Let us not use our choices
to take theirs away
they’ll be asking, “but why?”
for the rest of our days.
