Hers, indeed, was the one missing face in his heart's gallery of intimate portraits ~ O Henry (from The Green Door) I tend to trudge through life subdued and view events through lenses blued with Eeyore's gloomy attitude - but not today Most days I'm prone to wallow in an expectation of chagrin, I brace to take it on the chin - but not today Each day is bound to have its rains, two losses for each of its gains, a whole week's worth of aches and pains - but not today I've wandered through a dreary drought; while going days or weeks without a hearty laugh or joyous shout - but not today My odds of finding happiness? million-to-one would be my guess today though, clouds all acquiesce to part, and let the sunshine bless my years-long spate of loneliness - I smile and struggle to repress these joyful tears without success as she says 'Yes!' [Author's note - today, Nov 24th, marks the anniversary of the day my bride agreed to marry me... some have rightly questioned her judgment, but no one has ever questioned her love, for which I am eternally grateful]

Nobody does it like you, Andrea. To have read ALL my poems and still keep up with the new ones is frankly pretty amazing. Your ongoing friendship, even through the busiest times is a huge blessing for which I am grateful.

A moment of a lifetime. Beautiful poem expressing the contrast between loneliness and love. I know that yes made all the difference. Blessings to both of you, here and in the hereafter. A poet friend, Bill

You are so right, Bill, it was a moment I will never forget. When I asked, my heart and lungs stopped working until she said 'yes'. The years since have been the best years of my life, by far. Blessings ~ John

John you made me cry with this poem -years ago in our early twenties - my now husband and I were going out together for a year and somehow both let go, no reason, 23 years later we met up and Elias proposed to me 3 weeks later, and we were married 6 months after his proposal. We were not going to lose each other again. We were both divorced when we met up on that unforgettable day, each with a wonderful son. Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

Jenn, I really loved your response... it touched my heart. We both are blessed in a similar way, and I believe the loneliness that preceded the blessings made them all the more blest. Blessings and hugs to you, dear friend ~ John
