His drinking got out of hand he’d beat his wife black and blue, her make-up covered each mark but not the scars in her heart. This cruelty ran and ran fists rained down blow after blow, she tried to evade and dart these actions she must report. This behaviour was so wrong she sought justice from the law, now he’s been locked behind bars protecting her from more hurt. Genuine Englyns Poetry Contest Sponsored by Beth Evans 06/11/20

Most often fiction, but sometimes there is justice. I recall a trip to New Orleans when I saw a white man beating a young woman on the street. Suddenly an "Aunt Jemima" appeared out of nowhere and with one hand belted that man senseless and everyone on the street applauded her swift action although violence begets violence! Aloha! Rico

Unfortunately, all too often couples must rely on law enforcement to resolve their differences. I'm glad it worked out for her, but I hate thinking of women living in abusive situations like this. Very well written, Jan! Best wishes in Beth's contest.

Domestic abuse is on the increase during the pandemic when people are forced to spend more time together when they usually had the freedom to go out:-( hugs Jan xx

I'm sorry to hear that there's been more domestic violence. I didn't realize, but it makes sense. Thanks for bringing awareness. Maybe one day I'll be able to write about my experiences, but for now, I still try to protect my family. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing to do.

aww Rhonda so sorry you have suffered at the hand of a man you put your trust in, perhaps one day you will put it into words to share with others as sadly it is covered up so well both by the abuser and the abused... the scars may fade but they are etched on ones heart forever:-( hugs Jan xx

Very tragic, the short blunt words you use describe the shock of the abuse vividly, so moving-

It's awful this still happens to women, but laws are better then when I was growing up. Sadly, I know from childhood experience. The attitude by everyone back then, even police, was it's a private, family problem so stay out of it...not sure, but you might have a typo in second line. Black not back? Lots of luck in the contest. :) Hugs, Rhonda
