Brief Solace
BRIEF SOLACE
For My Mother
If only you had not left me
at the time you did, it would be
better for me--not you, however.
For in leaving, now gone forever,
you've taken the best from me.
Though I'm weathered by grief
and much bereft, I've gain relief
in seeing you released from pain--
but release from me was not our gain;
solace for me--but only brief.
